Itinerary (*subject to change)
Day 1: August 3 – Depart USA for Rome Italy
Depart on your overnight flight to Rome. Dinner served aboard flight.
Day 2: August 4 – Rome / Assisi
Arrive Rome where you will be met by your tour escort after clearing customs and retrieving your luggage. Transfer to Assisi and check in at your hotel. Enjoy some time to explore on your own the quaint streets that were home to St Francis and St Clare eight hundred years ago. Welcome dinner and overnight. (D)
Day 3: August 5 – Assisi
Celebrate Mass this morning at the tomb of St. Francis (pending confirmation), followed by a guided tour of the Basilica. Then, enjoy a walking city tour of Assisi to see the art and architecture of this Umbrian town. Visit the Church of St. Clare to see her tomb and the Cross of San Damiano. Enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure to stroll around this charming village with its quaint shops and peaceful atmosphere. Dinner and overnight. (B, D)
Day 4: August 6 – Assisi / Lanciano / San Giovanni Rotondo
After breakfast, depart for Lanciano. Upon arrival, celebrate Mass at the Church of St. Longinus. This Church is the site of the Eucharistic Miracle that occurred in the eighth century. At the time of the Miracle, there was a Basilian monk who struggled with the belief in the real presence of The Lord Jesus in the Eucharist. During Mass, the monk, with doubt in his voice, said the “Words of Consecration” and the bread turned into living flesh, and the wine transformed into live blood. Continue on to San Giovanni Rotondo for dinner and overnight. (B, D)
Day 5: August 7 – San Giovanni Rotondo
After breakfast, you will visit the Old Church. After Mass, you will tour the sanctuary, it is here you will view the crucifix, in front of which St. Pio received the stigmata. Visit the confessional from where St. Pio spent an innumerable amount of hours listening to confessions. Later we will take the short drive along the beautiful Gargano Peninsula to the Grotto of St. Michael the Archangel, a shrine consecrated by St. Michael. At this grotto, St. Michael appeared to a Bishop to assure him that his diocese would not be annihilated as he feared. Return to San Giovanni Rotondo for dinner and overnight. (B, D)
Day 6: August 8 – San Giovanni Rotondo / Mugnano / Sorrento
After breakfast drive to Mugnano Del Cardinale Avellino, Italy to visit The Sanctuary of Saint Philomena, which houses the Sacred Body of Saint Philomena, the tiles from her tomb, the miraculous statue which exuded oil, the chair that Ven. Pauline Jaricot was sitting on when she received her miracle. Continue to Sorrento for dinner and overnight. (B, D)
Day 7: August 9 – Sorrento / Amalfi
After breakfast depart for the Amalfi Coast, one of the most beautiful roads in the world. Each winding turn reveals a dazzling and unforgettable view of the coastline and sea. The villas are perched into the rocky coastline and seem to hang from the heavens. Stop in Positano for a beautiful picture and the first lemon slush of the day then continue to Amalfi, one of the four Maritime Republics of Italy. Visit the Cathedral of Amalfi dedicated to St. Andrew, whose relics and crypt are located here. Explore the pedestrian streets of this quaint town where there are various bars and cafes. Return to Sorrento for dinner and overnight. (B, D)
Day 8: August 10 – Sorrento / Pompeii / Rome
After breakfast, depart for Pompeii, to visit one of the most important and interesting archaeological museums in the world. This famous ancient city was buried by the ashes of Mt. Vesuvius in AD 79. Visit as well the famous Shrine of Our Lady of the Rosary and learn about the life of Blessed Bartolo Longo, who built the shrine and dedicated his life to serving orphans and preparing them for careers. Here you will celebrate Mass. Continue to Rome for Dinner and overnight. (B, D)
Day 9: August 11 – Rome
We begin the day with Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica, followed by time to explore this amazing and beautiful Catholic basilica. Tour as well the Vatican Museums and Gallery, Raphael’s Room, and the Sistine Chapel. Afternoon at your leisure. Dinner and overnight. (B, D)
Day 10: August 12 – Rome
This morning attend the Papal Audience at St Peter’s Square, pending confirmation. In the afternoon we will see ancient Rome, including the Capitoline Hill, the Roman Forum, the Palatine Hill, Circus Maximus, Colosseum, Arches of Titus and Constantine, to learn about the Roman context within which the Catholic Church was born and saw its early expansion. Day 11: August 13 – Rome
This morning, after breakfast, celebrate Mass at St. Mary Major. Then, take a Christian Rome Tour, with a guided visit of St. Mary Major, St. John in Lateran, the Cathedral of Rome, St. Paul’s Outside the Walls and finally we visit the catacombs of St. Priscilla where St. Philomena’s remains were discovered. Farewell dinner and overnight. (B, D)
Day 12: August 14 – Rome / USA
This morning depart for the Rome airport for our return flight home. (B)
