Read Scripture where Jesus taught and walked. Breathe in the sites around the Sea of Galilee, visit the Mount of Beatitudes, Capharnaum, Cana, Nazareth, Mt. Tabor, and Caesarea Philippi. Pray at the birth place of our Lord in Bethlehem. Renew your baptismal vows at the Jordan River. Ascend to Jerusalem to visit the Upper Room, pray in the Garden of Gethsemane, descend into the pit where Jesus was held after being arrested, walk the Via Dolorosa, stand where Mary stood at the foot of the cross and enter the Empty Tomb. Your faith will come alive. Mass will be celebrated daily by Bishop Talley in these Holy Sites.
Itinerary (subject to change)
Day 1 – Monday, March 9: DEPART USA
Depart your local airport for Tel Aviv with complimentary meals and beverages served aloft. (Airport to be determined once flights become available, approx. 11 months from travel.)
Day 2 – Tuesday, March 10: ARRIVE TEL AVIV / TRANSFER TO TIBERIAS
On arrival we will be met by our Catholic tour guide and proceed to our hotel in Tiberias on the shores of the Sea of Galilee. (D)
Day 3 – Wednesday, March 11: CANA / NAZARETH / TIBERIAS
We begin our day heading to Cana of Galilee where Jesus performed His first miracle at the request of His mother. There we will visit the Franciscan chapel for a renewal of wedding vows. We continue on to Nazareth, the site of Mary’s home and the town where Jesus played as a child, learned a trade, and grew to manhood. We will have Mass in the Church of the Annunciation, pending confirmation, and an opportunity to visit the church of St. Joseph. Return to Tiberias. (B, D)
Day 4 – Thursday, March 12: MT. BEATITUDES / CAESAREA PHILIPPI / GOLAN HEIGHT
This morning we visit the Mount of Beatitudes for Mass and reflection time followed by a drive to the Golan Heights and stop to see the site Caesarea Philippi, where Jesus asked His disciples “Who do People say that I am?” Drive up higher on the Golan Heights and come to the Druze Villages. Return to the Sea of Galilee for dinner and overnight. (B, D).
Day 5 – Friday, March 13: SEA OF GALILEE / TABGHA / CAPHARNAUM
This morning we board a boat for a brief excursion on the Sea of Galilee. We will visit Tabgha where Jesus fed the crowd of 5,000, and “Peter’s Primacy”, the site where, after His resurrection, Jesus met with His disciples and told Peter to “feed my lambs; feed my sheep.” There we will celebrate Mass. Continue to Capharnaum where Jesus began his Galilean ministry, see the synagogue which dates to the time of Jesus and the site of Peter’s home. Return to Tiberias. (B, D)
Day 6 – Saturday, March 14: MT. TABOR / JACOB’S WELL / JERUSALEM
Today we begin our journey with a trip to Mount Tabor where Jesus is transformed before Peter, James and John and they glimpse a sign of His glory before they witness His passion and death. Following Mass on Mount Tabor, we continue on to visit Jacob’s Well. Here Jesus had the encounter with the Samaritan woman, continue our drive through Samaria to Jerusalem. Check into our Hotel. Day 7 – Sunday, March 15: BETHLEHEM / SHEPHERDS’ FIELD / EIN KAREM
We begin our day in the Shepherds’ Field for Mass in the Shepherds’ Cave. We continue with our visit to the Church of the Nativity. If time permits on our return to Jerusalem we will visit the Ein Karem, where Mary visited Elizabeth and proclaimed the Magnificat. Continue on to our hotel for dinner and overnight. (B, D)
Day 8 – Monday, March 16: MT. OLIVES / MT. ZION
This morning the bus takes us to the Garden of Gethsemane along with the Church of All Nations where we will celebrate Mass. Afterwards, we continue up the hill where we overlook the city of Jerusalem where Jesus wept over the city. We will then travel by bus across the Kidron Valley to the site of Caiaphas’ Palace where Jesus experienced the Jewish portion of His trial. The site is known today as St. Peter in Galicantu. We also visit the Upper Room where Jesus had His Last Supper. This evening, pending confirmation, we will have the opportunity to spend some time in meditation in the Garden of Gethsemane where Jesus prayed the night before He was crucified. (B, D)
Day 9 – Tuesday, March 17: JERUSALEM: VIA DOLOROSA & HOLY SEPULCHRE
We begin the morning early to walk the Via Dolorosa, the Way of the Cross. Following the Via Dolorosa, we proceed to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the site where Jesus was crucified and where He was buried. Here we celebrate Mass, after which we return to the hotel for breakfast. Later this morning we return to the Old City to visit the St. Stephen’s Gate and the Church of St. Anne. We will visit the Pool of Bethesda where Jesus healed the paralytic, and the Western or Wailing Wall of the Temple. This afternoon we will visit Yad Vashem, Israel’s official memorial to the victims of the Holocaust. (B, D)
Day 10 – Wednesday, March 18: JERICHO / JORDAN RIVER / QUMRAN / DEAD SEA
Today we drive to Jericho for Mass at the Good Shepherd’s Church after which we view the Mount of Temptation. We will also see a Sycamore Tree to remember the story of Zacchaeus. Then we will visit the Jordan River where Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist; here we renew our Baptismal Promises. Then we will visit Qumran where the Dead Sea scrolls were found. We continue to the Dead Sea were we will give the opportunity for people to go in for a float before we drive back to Jerusalem for dinner. (B, D)
* Day 11 – Thursday, March 19: JERUSALEM / TEL AVIV / USA
We transfer to Tel Aviv Airport for our return flight to the USA. * Departure could range from late Wednesday evening through early Thursday morning.
